CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The band TLC warned, “Don’t go chasing waterfalls.” But since June of last year, West Virginia’s Department of Tourism has actively been encouraging residents and visitors to do just that.
In 2022, the state’s tourism department initiated the West Virginia Waterfall Trail. The trail was created to encourage people to visit the state’s more than 200 falls. Initially, the trail featured 29 cascades.
Since its launch last June, the waterfall trail has received over 35,000 participant check-ins, according to state officials. Visitors from 49 states and 15 countries have visited the trail’s falls, according to a release.
